Photography, contemporary art, fashion: Milan is making the most of Fashion Week with a wave of new artistic offerings. From William Klein’s electric cities to Charmaine Poh’s digital identities, from Shilpa Gupta’s political art to Viktor&Rolf’s radical silhouettes, four newly opened exhibitions that capture the pulse of the city.
WILLIAM KLEIN: CITY BOY
Milan, Rome, New York, Paris: four cities through which to tell the story of William Klein and his fiercely urban eye. M77’s first monographic exhibition dedicated to the photographer highlights his Italian story in particular: Milan, where his career began in the early 1950s, followed by Rome, where he worked alongside Federico Fellini in 1956 and established himself as a photographer. The city according to Klein: up close, fast, instinctive and without distance.
“My Cities”, until November 14 at M77 Gallery, Via Mecenate 77

CHARMAINE POH: INTIMATE TECHNOLOGIES
For her first solo exhibition in Italy, Chinese Singaporean artist Charmaine Poh blurs the boundaries between the intimate and the political. Photography, video, text, performance and deepfakes explore memory, identity and the representation of the body in the digital age. Among the works, Good Morning Young Body revisits her own past as a child actress on television. A generational self portrait, as personal as it is unsettling.
“Make a travel deep of your inside, and don’t forget me to take”, until November 1 at MUDEC Photo, Via Tortona 56

SHILPA GUPTA: NO BORDERS
At GAM, Shilpa Gupta takes over the museum’s historic rooms with works exploring borders, freedom, censorship and movement. Sculpture, light, video, sound and performance form a language that is both poetic and political, in which familiar words and objects suddenly shift in meaning. Conceived in dialogue with the museum’s collections, the exhibition brings together several new works by the Mumbai based artist.
“One Palm Closer to the Sky”, until January 6, 2027 at GAM, Galleria d’Arte Moderna / Fondazione Furla, Via Palestro 16

VIKTOR&ROLF: COUTURE SPECTRUM
Thirty years of fashion distilled into twenty silhouettes. For their first solo exhibition in Italy, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren present at 10 Corso Como a selection of haute couture pieces from some of their most iconic collections. Displayed in pairs, they reveal the singular territory the two Dutch designers have always inhabited: somewhere between clothing, sculpture, performance and conceptual art.
